Apeksha Niranjan is a Mumbai-based half-Polish, half-Indian Bharatnatyam dancer, choreographer and actress. On 3.2.2025, she gave a performance at The Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia in New Delhi, based on the life of her grandmother Wanda Nowicka. Wanda was one of a thousand Polish children orphaned during World War II, who came to India from Siberia in 1941, and were provided homes, food and education by the Maharajas of Jamnagar (Gujarat) and Kolhapur (Maharashtra). Wanda trained to be a nurse, fell in love with an Indian doctor and stayed on. There are over 5,000 Polish-origin Indians living in the country. Apeksha's performance was part of an event at which Polish writer Monika Kowaleczko-Szumowska's book MAHARAJA'S CHILDREN (published by the National Book Trust) was discussed and well-known filmmaker Anjali Bhushan's MY HOME INDIA, a documentary on the same subject, was screened. Anjali is now planning a Hollywood film on the subject. The event was organised by the FCC in collaboration with Polish Institute New Delhi.

ABOUT FCC SOUTH ASIA

Welcome to the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia, a group of more than 500 journalists and photographers covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan and Tibet.

New members are always welcome – there is a link to the membership application form on this page. While the club was started by “Foreign” correspondents, or those who work for news outlets outside of the region, we also welcome journalists from local newspapers, magazines and television. In addition to journalists we admit associates such as diplomats, lawyers, and people dealing with the media from non-governmental organizations and companies.

As India’s economy has boomed in recent years, and conflict continued to grip Afghanistan and other neighboring areas, the FCC has become an important meeting point for far-flung travelling journalists to reconnect and recharge. The club has also substantially expanded what it offers to members, to include more press conferences, sports match screenings, book launches and other cultural events.
