ABOUT FCC SOUTH ASIA

The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia is a group of more than 700 journalists and photographers covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan and Tibet.

New members are always welcome. The club was started by “Foreign” correspondents, or those who work for news outlets outside of the region. However, we welcome journalists from Indian newspapers, magazines, television channels and news portals. In addition to journalists, we also admit diplomats, lawyers, and people dealing with the media from non-governmental organizations and companies as Associate Members.

As India’s economy has boomed in recent years, and tensions continued to grip Afghanistan and other neighboring areas, the FCC has become an important meeting point for far-flung travelling journalists to reconnect and recharge. The club has also substantially expanded what it offers to members, to include more press conferences, sports match screenings, book launches and other cultural events.

INDIA-WEST ASIA REATIONS TODAY

6 pm, April 26, 2024

On April 27, the FCC held a discussion on Anil Trigunayat’s book, ‘West Asian Dynamics and India’s Strategic Imperative’. Trigunayat served as India’s Ambassador to Jordan and Libya and his book sheds light on India and its evolving ties with the Gulf.

The Egyptian Ambassador to India Wael Hamed joined in as a discussant and he later took many questions on the current situation in Gaza and how Egypt looks at the situation. It was a discussion that went on for more than one hour and the audience had a range of questions on West Asia.

The discussion was also attended by the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to India Elchin Huseynli, the Syrian Ambassador to India Dr Bassam Seifeddin Alkhatib, by Counsellor of the Turkish Embassy Oytun Celik, among a host of other dignitaries.

It was a great session where the audience kept the questions coming and it was an informative and engaging session on the politics of the Middle East.

On April 29, the FCC hosted a book discussion on ‘Kathmandu Chronicle, Reclaiming India- Nepal Relations’. The authors KV Rajan who served as India’s Ambassador to Nepal and Atul Thakur were joined by Manjeev Puri who also later served as India’s Ambassador to Nepal. It was a packed house which also saw the presence of Marje Luup, Estonia’s Ambassador to India. It was an engaging evening and many questions were raised and discussed about the future of India-Nepal ties and other factors that affect Nepal and its future.

The next round of the popular monthly Quiz will be held on June 29..
